Using the temperatures and the oxygen isotopes we estimate variations in the salinity of the sea surface and deep waters. These data were obtained from a gravity core NDT-6-2016 collected at the west flank of Sicily channel (38°0'26,60''N and 11°47'44,84''E) during the Next Data expedition (CNR-URANIA R/V, 2016). The recovered core is located at 1066 m of water depth, the present-day boundary layer between WMDW and EMSW #--------------------------------------- # Publication # Authors: Sergio Trias, Maria de la Fuente, Albert Catalą, David Leopoldo Pena, Jaime Frigola, Fabrizio Lirer and Isabel Cacho # Published_Date_or_Year: 2024 # Published_Title: Deglacial changes in Mediterranean water properties and their link with Mediterranean outflow # Journal_Name: Paleoceanography and Paleoclimate # Volume: # Edition: # Issue: # Pages: # Report_Number: # DOI: # Online_Resource: # Full_Citation: # Abstract: In this work we investigate changes in the deep/intermediate deep waters produced in the Eastern Mediterraenan from the last deglaciation (14 kyr BP), that flow to the Western Mediterranean through the Strait of Sicily. We explore these changes using stable oxygen isotopes (d18O) and Mg/Ca ratios in benthic and planktonic foraminifera from a sediment core in the western Sicily channel. #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: TIMED (ERC) # Grant: 683237 #--------------------------------------- # Site_Information # Site_Name: NDT-6-2016 # Location: Mediterranean Sea # Northernmost_Latitude: 38.007222 # Southernmost_Latitude: 38.007222 # Easternmost_Longitude: 11.795556 # Westernmost_Longitude: 11.795556 # Elevation_m: -1066 #--------------------------------------- # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: dwt_interp_u.spp # First_Year: 14900 # Last_Year: -142.7 # Time_Unit: calendar year before present # Core_Length_m: 4.14 # Parameter_Keywords: geochemistry, reconstruction # Notes: #--------------------------------------- # Chronology_Information # Chronology: #--------------------------------------- # Variables # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Resource: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/paleo-search/skos/past-thesaurus.rdf # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Description: Paleoenvironmental Standard Terms (PaST) Thesaurus terms, definitions, and relationships in SKOS format. # # Data variables follow that are preceded by "##" in columns one and two. # Variables list, one per line, shortname-tab-var components: what, material, error, units, seasonality, data type, detail, method, C or N for Character or Numeric data) # ## age_interp age,,,calendar kiloyear before present,,Paleoceanography,,interpolated,N,100 years Interpolated age ## dwt_u.spp temperature, benthic foraminifer,,degree Celsius,,Paleoceanography,,,N,deep water temperature (DWT); Uvigerina ssp.; Elderfield et al.
