This study explores whether the near-ridge environment responds to glacial-interglacial changes in climate and oceanography. New benthic d18O, radiocarbon, multi-sensor track, and phys- ical property (sedimentation rates, density, magnetic susceptibility) data for seven cores on the Juan de Fuca Ridge pro- vide multiple records covering the past 700,000 years of oceanographic history of the Northeast Pacific Ocean. System- atic variations in sediment density and coarse fraction correspond to glacial-interglacial cycles identified in benthic d18O, and these observations may provide a framework for mapping the d18O chronostratigraphy via sediment density to other locations on the Juan de Fuca Ridge and beyond. Sedimentation rates generally range from 0.5 to 3 cm/kyr, with back- ground pelagic sedimentation rates close to 1 cm/kyr. Variability in sedimentation rates close to the ridge likely reflects remobilization of sediment caused by the high relief of the ridge bathymetry. Sedimentation patterns primarily reflect di- vergence of sedimentation rates with distance from the ridge axis and glacial-interglacial variation in sedimentation that may reflect carbonate preservation cycles as well as preferential remobilization of fine material. #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: NSF # Grant: AGS-1338832 #--------------------------------------- # Site Information # Site_Name: AT26-19 20PC # Location: North Pacific # Country: # Northernmost_Latitude: 44.70817 # Southernmost_Latitude: 44.70817 # Easternmost_Longitude: 130.70383 # Westernmost_Longitude: 130.70383 # Elevation: -2738 #--------------------------------------- # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: 20PC Coarse Costa16 # First_Year: 394080 # Last_Year: 43600 # Time_Unit: cal yr BP # Core_Length: # Notes: #--------------------------------------- # Chronology_Information # Chronology: #--------------------------------------- # Variables # Data variables follow that are preceded by "##" in columns one and two. # Variables list, one per line, shortname-tab-longname components (9 components: what, material, error, units, seasonality, archive, detail, method, C or N for Character or Numeric data) ## depth_cm depth,,,cm,,,,,N ## age_calkaBP age,,,calendar ka BP,,,,,N ## coarse% coarse fraction,sediment,,weight percent,,paleoceanography,>63um,,N #------------------------ # Data # Data lines follow (have no #) # Data line format - tab-delimited text, variable short name as header # Missing Value: NaN depth_cm age_calkaBP coarse% 0.5 43.60 17.9 4.5 47.15 23.7 8.5 50.71 14.6 12.5 54.26 21.0 16.5 57.81 17.3 20.5 61.36 24.9 24.5 64.91 16.2 28.5 68.47 19.8 32.5 72.02 24.2 36.5 75.57 12.9 40.5 79.12 18.4 44.5 82.67 7.1 48.5 86.22 8.9 52.5 89.78 5.0 56.5 93.33 2.0 60.5 96.88 4.2 64.5 104.46 1.3 68.5 117.25 8.6 72.5 128.53 35.5 76.5 131.82 36.0 80.5 135.11 36.8 84.5 138.40 41.9 88.5 141.70 28.4 92.5 144.99 24.8 96.5 148.28 35.1 100.5 151.57 38.0 104.3 154.70 34.4 108.3 158.00 34.5 111.3 160.46 31.7 116.3 164.58 28.8 120.3 167.87 36.8 128.3 174.46 19.8 132.3 177.75 21.5 136.3 181.04 9.6 140.3 184.34 15.4 144.3 187.63 16.8 148.3 190.92 5.8 152.3 194.21 3.5 156.3 197.51 1.2 160.3 200.80 1.1 164.3 204.23 1.7 168.3 207.99 0.5 172.3 211.75 0.4 176.3 215.50 0.5 180.3 219.63 1.7 184.3 224.55 1.0 188.3 229.47 1.0 192.3 234.39 1.3 200.3 244.22 1.8 204.3 247.44 7.8 208.3 249.23 9.3 212.3 251.01 9.0 216.3 252.79 11.8 224.3 256.36 12.0 228.3 258.14 12.2 232.3 259.93 13.0 236.3 261.71 10.5 240.3 263.49 12.0 244.3 265.27 11.8 248.3 267.06 11.5 252.3 268.84 10.8 257.4 271.11 4.6 261.4 272.21 7.5 265.4 272.21 1.3 269.4 272.21 0.2 273.4 272.21 0.1 277.4 272.21 1.1 281.4 272.21 1.1 285.4 272.21 2.0 289.4 274.12 0.6 293.4 278.12 1.6 297.4 282.12 1.7 301.4 286.12 2.3 305.4 290.11 1.9 309.4 294.11 1.4 313.4 298.11 1.6 317.4 302.11 2.1 321.4 306.11 1.9 325.4 310.11 1.0 329.4 314.11 0.4 333.4 318.10 1.5 337.4 322.10 1.5 341.4 326.10 1.7 345.4 330.10 0.7 349.4 334.10 0.7 353.4 338.10 3.8 357.4 342.10 1.4 361.4 346.09 1.9 365.4 350.09 2.0 369.4 354.09 1.7 373.4 358.09 1.6 377.4 362.09 6.1 381.4 366.09 7.2 385.4 370.09 1.9 393.4 378.08 2.7 397.4 382.08 3.8 401.4 386.08 9.1 405.4 390.08 2.5 409.4 394.08 2.6
